Two Pilots

Which Pilot do you want to fly with?

It’s obvious, right? I might not be alone when I say that often when it gets tough, my natural inclination is to hunker down, and do what is most natural for me to survive, for me to make it through (pilot one).

We know that our natural inclination is not always right, and we know that our habits can be broken, and our skills to lead well can improved.

As Dr. Michael Merzinich says, “If we want to get better at something that matters to us we just have to get to work.”

Be aware of how you are reacting when the going gets tough. With enough work you can become the second pilot, even if it isn’t your natural inclination.
